The Mayor's Office in partnership with the URA will host a complimentary, government focused, Small Business Resource Fair. The purpose of the event is to offer small business owners in-person access to representatives from all relevant departments within city services (zoning, permits, ADA compliance, etc.). You will have the opportunity to have all of your questions answered ― all in one location. This event would be ideal for small business owners such as restaurateurs, retail owners, contractors, etc. 
 

The Energy Innovation Center is currently recruiting for the Intro to Trades Program.  This is a very popular exploration and apprentice readiness training that is highly recognized by 19 trades in the city of Pittsburgh.  The first class was very successful with a 93% completion rate; 100% of the participants who have taken the exams have passed; 66% have received acceptance letters and at least  (2) of the participants h ave completed the process and working earning $16-17 per hour with benefits. 
 
They expect the successes to continue to climb as the apprentice exam periods opens throughout the year. The 6-week training course includes a daily stipend. 
 
Interviews are being scheduled (beginning June 1st) for a capacity enrollment of 20 committed candidates.

Mayor William Peduto today celebrates the first day of the National Week of Making, drawing attention to Pittsburgh’s vibrant ecosystem of makers, and announcing new considerations in response to President Obama’s call-to-action to support a generation of Americans who are “makers of things not just consumers of things.”
Throughout the region, new tools – things like 3D printers, laser cutters, and advanced software design programs – are increasingly giving everyday citizens the ability to make just about anything. This renaissance in American manufacturing may have profound benefits for entrepreneurs, students, and citizens of all ages and backgrounds.
In response to the President’s call to action, Mayor Peduto is proud to draw attention to Pittsburgh’s vibrant community of makers and announce new considerations and commitments from local stakeholders to expand this work:
  • The Mayor’s Office will explore possibilities to provide better support to the larger maker community.
  • Event organizers will publicly release a call for makers to participate in the first-ever Maker Faire Pittsburgh
  • The Sprout Fund will premiere the Remake Learning Playbook
  • The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh will announce the ten schools chosen to participate in the pilot stage of the project, “Kickstarting Making in Schools.”
  • The Remake Learning Council will convene local maker stakeholders to advance the collective agenda for “Pittsburgh Makes.”
  • Maker leaders from the region will join colleagues from other major cities to form the American Maker Cities (AMC) North.

The City of Pittsburgh Department of Parks & Recreation (Citiparks) will be accepting proposals for a contract to perform custodial and cleaning services at the city’s twenty-two (22) Recreation and Healthy Active Living (Senior) centers beginning April 8, 2015.

This Request for Proposals specifically addresses the need to provide regular, efficient and effective custodial and cleaning services to the 22 Recreation and Healthy Active Living (Senior) centers.

Citiparks is seeking proposals that provide an hourly rate for reimbursement for providing the services above for as few as four (4) specific facilities and as many as all twenty two (22) facilities.

Citiparks has partnered with the Department of Innovation & Performance and the city’s Code for America Fellows to develop the RFP website where interested vendors can sign up to receive updates, responses to questions, submission details and deadline information regarding the Request for Proposals.
