Street Closures for Great Race Sun 9/24

Street closings on  on Sunday, September 24, 2017 for both the 10K and the 5K are divided into four separate zones. Zones C & D will be closed at 6:30 a.m. Zones A & B will close at 8:30 a.m. Each zone will re-open at different times. The schedule is as follows:
  • ZONE A – Start Line at Beechwood Blvd. to Forbes and Morewood Avenues closure from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 10:00 a.m.
  • ZONE B – Forbes and Morewood Avenues to Fifth Avenue and Bigelow Blvd. closure from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 10:30 a.m.
  • ZONE C – Fifth Avenue and Bigelow Blvd. to Fifth Avenue & the ramp to Blvd. of the Allies (at Robinson Street) closure from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 10:45 a.m.
  • ZONE D – Fifth Avenue & the Oakland ramp to Blvd. of the Allies to Commonwealth Blvd. and Liberty Ave. closure from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 11:00 a.m.

PTC/URA Development Presentation At Sept SONG Mtg – Tue 9/5 6pm

​The URA has interest from a developer to build an office building inside the Pittsburgh Technology Center on 2nd Avenue. The proposal is for a 6-story 150,000 sf commercial office building. 
 
Their proposal to the URA, including results of community input process, are due September 15th, so they will be presenting at the South Oakland Neighborhood Group (SONG) meeting on Tue 9/5 at 6pm at Frazier Fieldhouse, with any interested members of the Oakcliffe Community Organization (OCO) attending as well.

EcoInnovation District Plan Public Draft Open House – Tue 7/11 6:30pm

Tuesday, July 11th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. there will be a community celebration and open house where the City of Pittsburgh and project partners will reveal the public draft of the EcoInnovation District Plan. 
  
Snacks and refreshments will be provided and sign language interpreters will be present. 
 
Can’t make the meeting? The plan will also be available on the project website (http://www.ecoinnovationdistrict.org/) along with an online comment form. 
 
They hope you will consider coming and providing comments on the draft plan.

Suspect In Car Break-Ins 6/10/17

These are images of a man caught on camera breaking into a car in South Oakland.  He appears to be a heavy set white male, beard, long wavy/curly hair, backpack, might be carrying a small towel with him. He's seen walking around Oakland between 2:30am to 4:00am on June 10.  If you have any information on this guy, please alert police or let us know.

Rash Of Car Related Thefts – June 2017

There have been 6 or 7 theft from cars and 2 cars stolen in South Oakland the last 2 weeks on Hardie Way, Dawson and Parkview. 
 
    We are urging residents to take basic precautions to prevent crimes.   This includes like making sure doors are locked and the importance of leaving nothing visible inside your car.  Obviously this includes anything like laptop, camera, cell-phone, purse, etc., but also anything not as obviously valuable, like an old pair of jeans or worn-looking crumpled sweatshirt. To a hopeful thief, they could contain a wallet, jewelry, etc., 
 
    A related precaution:  Never leave a charger plugged into your vehicle’s accessory-socket!  A potential thief seeing that telltale wire draped across the center-console, might hope to find a cell-phone or GPS, etc. 
 
    Attached is the City Weekly Crime Report for last week.

Oakland Community Land Trust Information

Here in Pittsburgh, Oakland is one of several neighborhoods, including Lawrenceville and Garfield, that is launching a Trust to combat the critical shortage of quality, afford-able homes available to regular homebuyers. Many other neighborhoods are engaging residents to decide if this model works for them.
