STUDY OVERVIEW – The City of Pittsburgh, Port Authority, and the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, along with Allegheny County Economic Development, in coordination with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), are conducting an environmental and engineering study for a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in the area extending from Downtown Pittsburgh to Uptown, Oakland and other East End neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. Incorporation of bicycle and pedestrian facility improvements into the project is also proposed. The map below illustrates the study area.WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? –
- Spring 2015: The public scoping period begins with the May 5 & 6 public meetings and extends to June 4, 2015 during which additional public and agency input is received. The NEPA review will begin. Coordination with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission has been initiated and contacts with other regulatory and resource agencies will occur.
- Summer 2015: Community workshops to discuss the location and design of BRT stations will be convened. The analysis of the alternatives effects on the social and economic environment, physical environment and transportation system will continue. The alternatives will be refined.
- Fall 2015: The NEPA analyses will be completed. Based on the input from the workshops and technical analyses, the station designs will be developed further.
- Winter/Spring 2016: The draft NEPA document will be prepared.
- Spring/Summer 2016: The public will review and comment on the draft NEPA document. Based on public comment and the NEPA analyses, the LPA will be selected. A report on the LPA will be submitted to FTA for approval to advance the project into Preliminary Engineering.

This is the updated design from Campus Advantage for their proposed development at 3407 Forbes Avenue.
The updated design improves the pedestrian experience at the street level and sets the entrance to the parking garage back from the street to help increase safety for pedestrians when vehicles are entering and exiting the building. They've also stepped back the building slightly in a couple of places which helps break up the facade. The pdf lays out the old design vs. the new design for comparison.
The current traffic study is also attached.

The City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Works will review their plans and detours for the Greenfield Avenue Bridge demolition and reconstruction.
The City of Pittsburgh is seeking public input on an action plan for transit improvements and community development in the corridor between Downtown and neighborhoods east.
Two public meetings are set for next week. They are:
- Tuesday, May 5, 2015 Uptown/Downtown, Noon – 2:00 p.m., Duquesne University, Power Center Ballroom 1015 Forbes Avenue
- Wednesday, May 6, 2015 Oakland, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., William Pitt Student Union, 3959 Fifth Avenue
At these upcoming public meetings, the City of Pittsburgh will provide an overview of coordinated planning efforts in the corridor along Fifth and Forbes avenues, including Downtown, Uptown, Oakland, and other East End neighborhoods. This will involve a review of ongoing planning for transit improvements, including bus rapid transit (BRT), and upcoming planning for an EcoInnovation District in the Uptown neighborhood.

PennDOT reminds its customers that they can take advantage of two voluntary, potentially life-saving programs designed to aid Pennsylvanians in emergency situations – the Yellow Dot and Emergency Contact Information programs.
Participants in the Yellow Dot program enter their emergency contact, medical contact and medical information on forms inside a Yellow Dot folder and then place the folder in their vehicle’s glove compartment. Participants then place a Yellow Dot sticker on their vehicle’s rear window. This sticker alerts emergency responders to check a vehicle’s glove compartment for the folder, helping emergency responders provide specific care to participants after a crash.
The Emergency Contact Information program offers Pennsylvania driver’s license and PennDOT-issued ID holders the opportunity to log into a secure database and list two emergency contacts. Customers can update the information as needed, but only law enforcement officials can view their information in the system. In the event of an emergency, law enforcement can use the participant’s ID to find their emergency contact information.While the Yellow Dot program is utilized only in vehicle crashes, the Emergency Contact Information program is usable in other emergencies as well as crashes.

Traffic AdvisoryFifth Avenue Traffic Signal Improvements at the Birmingham Bridge Saturday and Sunday in Pittsburgh
PennDOT District 11 is announcing traffic signal improvements on Fifth Avenue in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur on Saturday and Sunday, April 11-12, weather permitting.
Single-lane traffic will occur on Fifth Avenue between Brenham Street and Moultrie Street from 6 a.m. Saturday continuously through 5 p.m. on Sunday as crews install a new control panel and radar detection system at the Fifth Avenue intersection with Kirkpatrick Street and the Birmingham Bridge.
Crews from Joseph B. Fay Company will conduct the installation.
This work is part of $28.5 million Birmingham Bridge Preservation Project, which includes painting of the entire superstructure, steel repairs, bearing replacements, substructure repairs, light pole replacements and a concrete overlay. Construction will conclude in the spring of 2017.

"UPMC is moving forward with plans to make major improvements that will bring more green space and enhanced traffic flow to the vibrant city neighborhood of Oakland.
The project will remove the top six floors of the South Tower (formerly Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh) and portions of the bottom eight floors. The pedestrian bridge between the Falk Medical Building and UPMC Presbyterian also will be removed.

Large-scale demolition of the South Tower is scheduled to begin mid-June. Project completion is anticipated in the summer of 2016."

Liberty Tunnel Washing Activities Begin Sunday in Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh – PennDOT is announcing work to wash the Liberty Tunnels (Route 3069) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will begin Sunday night, April 5 weather permitting.
To accommodate tunnel washing activities, single-lane overnight closures will occur in both directions of the Liberty Tunnels from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday morning, April 10. Work will not begin on Tuesday, April 7 until two hours after the Neil Diamond concert ends. Traffic on the bridge will not be impacted.
Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns. Please use caution when driving through the area. Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility

Street Cleaning starts April 1 and ends November 30, dependent upon weather conditions. South Oakland days are typically the third Wednesday or Thursday. Check the signs in your area.
If there are a lot of parked cars being ticketed, it can greatly delay and ultimately prevent street cleaning. Please make sure to move your car and alert any neighbors as well.

Birmingham Bridge Work Platform Installation continues Monday Night in Pittsburgh
Overnight Traffic Stoppages on Eastbound Parkway East
PennDOT District 11 is announcing work platform installation under the Birmingham Bridge (Route 2085) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will continue Monday night, March 23, weather permitting.
Single-lane closures and intermittent rolling stoppages of 5 minutes or less will occur on eastbound (outbound) I-376 (Parkway East) under the Birmingham Bridge weeknights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday night, March 27.
