Southbound Bloomfield Bridge Closure begins Wednesday, July 29, 2015
PennDOT District 11 is announcing the southbound Bloomfield Bridge in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will close to traffic beginning Wednesday, July 29, weather permitting. 
Beginning at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, a 23 consecutive day, around-the-clock closure of southbound Bloomfield Bridge will occur.  The bridge will be closed to southbound traffic at Liberty Avenue.  Traffic will be detoured.
Posted Detour
  • From the northern end of the bridge, take Liberty Avenue east
  • Turn right onto Baum Boulevard
  • Turn right onto North Craig Street
  • North Craig Street becomes Bigelow Boulevard
  • Follow Bigelow Boulevard back to the Bloomfield Bridge
  • End detour
Motorists are advised to use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns.  Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.

City Hosts Oakland Meeting for Proposed Bike Lanes

As a follow up to the stakeholder meetings organized this past April by OBID, OTMA and partners, the City is now ready to come back to present final proposals and schedule for the Bike Share Network Plan which includes new dedicated bike lanes.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Engineering District 11-0, invites the public to attend a public display of plan for the reconstruction of SR 0400, Section A38, Baum Boulevard between Findland Street and Morewood Avenue.
The project, located in the City of Pittsburgh, Allgeheny County, PA includes full depth reconstruction from the Eastbound off-ramp to Bloomfield Bridge to the Baum Avenue Bridge over the Port Authority of Allegheny County Busway, reconstruction of the bridge deck and mill and overlay of Baum Boulevard from the bridge to Morewood Avenue. It also includes reconstruction of ADA sidewalk ramps and traffic signal upgrades within the project limits and reconstruction of the pavement of the underpass ramp to the Bloomfield Bridge.
The purpose of the public meeting is to present the construction schedule and traffic patterns during construction.

The City recently finished their geo-tech study of the site; the study revealed that the existing steps are slowly sliding down the hill. In order to address this, building the new steps will require core drilling into the bedrock. 

The current project timeline is:

  • Design completion by December 2015.
  • The project will be bid out in January 2016.
  • Demolition will begin Winter 2016.
  • Construction will finish Spring 2016.
Route 885 Boulevard of the Allies Overnight Shoulder Closures Continue Nightly in Pittsburgh
PennDOT District 11 is announcing overnight shoulder closures on the Boulevard of the Allies (Route 885) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will began Monday night, May 18 weather permitting.
Shoulder closures will occur nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Saturday night, May 30 in the following locations (Dates may vary due to weather):

  • On-ramp from Route 885 to westbound (inbound) Parkway East from Monday, May 18 to Thursday, May 21.
  • Northbound Route 885 between Craft Avenue and I-579 Crosstown Boulevard from Friday, May 22 to Sunday, May 24.
  • Westbound (inbound) I-376 Parkway East off-ramp (Exit 72B) to Route 885 from Monday, May 25 to Saturday, May 30. 
Crews from the Joseph B Fay Company will install work platforms.

Liberty Tunnel Maintenance and Washing Activities begin Tuesday Night in Pittsburgh 
PennDOT is announcing electrical maintenance and washing activities in the Liberty Tunnel in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will begin Tuesday night, May 19.
A single-lane restriction will occur in both directions of the tunnel from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night throughThursday night, May 21.
Motorists are advised to use caution and allow extra time when traveling through the area. Visit 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions and cameras on major roadways before traveling.

I-376 Parkway East Bridge Washing Activities Continue in Edgewood
PennDOT District 11 is announcing bridge washing activities on I-376 (Parkway East) in Edgewood Borough, Allegheny County, will began Monday night, May 18 weather permitting.
Single-lane restrictions in each direction will occur on the structure that carries I-376 over South Braddock Avenue.  Work will occur weeknights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Friday, May 29.
Crews from Michael Facchiano Contracting, Inc. will conduct the bridge washings activities.

Oakland Community Meeting: Proposed Bike Share Street Network

As one of America's shining examples of a 21st century city, Pittsburgh is moving to become more bicycle friendly.
On Monday, June 1, 2015 the Oakland community will host representatives from the City of Pittsburgh, Dept. of City Planning and Dept. of Public Works to hear and to provide feedback for the city's Proposed Bike Share Street Network Plan.
The City of Pittsburgh has proposed various bike infrastructure installations for many Oakland streets with the intent to broaden the accessibility for bikes; however that accommodation may require the elimination of parking and impact vehicle travel lanes.
Please come out and be a part of the discussion on the Proposed Bike Share Street Network Plan. In order to accomodate varying schedules, participants have the option to chose from two different meeting times:
