Mayor’s Civic Leadership Academy – Applications Due 3/4, Starts 3/30

  Applications for the Spring 2016 Civic Leadership Academy are now available!  The Civic Leadership Academy (CLA) is a FREE ten week course for City residents that provides an inside look on how City departments and authorities operate.Throughout the course, 12 City departments and authorities present on their day-to-day operations, budgets, new initiatives, and upcoming projects, and residents have the opportunity to ask questions, tour facilities, and network with fellow civic-minded residents.
30 students are accepted into the program from all different backgrounds, ages, and from neighborhoods all over the city.  We will also continue to reserve up to 15 seats for New Americans as part of Mayor Peduto’s Welcoming Pittsburgh Initiative. 
Applications are due Friday March 4th, and classes begin Wednesday, March 30th.  Students will be alerted of their acceptance by the third week of March.  Classes are held every Wednesday for 10 weeks from 6-8:30 pm downtown as well as various locations throughout the city.

Community Info Mtg – Wed 2/3 6pm Oakland Career Ctr

Inline image 1On Wednesday, February 3, OPDC is convening a community-wide meeting at 6pm at the Oakland Career Center for residents to discuss the many proposed developments in Oakland with City of Pittsburgh representatives. The agenda will include the Oakland Gateway Venture Project at Bates and the Blvd of the Allies, the potential redevelopment of the Jewish Federation’s property on McKee Place, and the expanded Campus Advantage Project on Forbes Avenue. CIty Offices Closed, Refuse Collection Postponed For MLK Jr Holiday Mon 1/18

The City of Pittsburgh offices will be closed on Monday, January 18, 2016 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, January 19, 2016.
 
Refuse
 
Refuse, bulk waste and recycling collection will not take place on Monday, January 18, 2016. The Department of Public Works has released the following schedule for the week.  For example:
 
If your scheduled day of collection is Monday, January 18, you will be serviced on Tuesday, January 19.  If your collection day is Tuesday, January 19, you will be serviced on Wednesday, January 20. 
…and so on.
Citiparks
Several Citiparks facilities will adjust operating schedules on Monday, January 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Closed Facilities:
  • Citiparks' 10 recreation centers and 14 Healthy Active Living centers for seniors
  • Oliver Bath House indoor swimming pool
Open Facilities:
  • Mellon Park Tennis Center (regular operating hours)
  • Schenley Park Skating Rink (Sessions: 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. and 4 – 6:30 p.m.)

Affordable Care Act – Info And Assistance – Wed 3/19 4-8pm

Wednesday: Affordable Care Act help in Pittsburgh 

The March 31 open enrollment deadline under the Affordable Care Act is almost here. That’s why I’m co-sponsoring an event this week that can help you and your family, friends and neighbors get covered.

You’re invited to come to the Hill District YMCA, 2114 Centre Ave., this Wednesday between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. to ask experts your questions and sign up for coverage before the deadline.

Four key things to know:
1.    Financial assistance is available for many Allegheny County residents.
2.    There is NO charge for the in-person assistance Wednesday.
3.    All plans will cover essential health benefits.
4.    It doesn’t matter if you have a pre-existing condition.

New City Council Dist 3 Satellite Office Grand Opening Thurs 11/14 Noon – 2PM

New hours and grand opening of our District 3 satellite office in Oakland! Donna Wielock and Arlene Trost will be staffing the office, located at People’s Oakland, every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 10 to 2, beginning with a grand opening open house on Thursday November 14th from noon to 2 PM.

With your help and input, we have compiled a detailed list of streets within our district that we would like to be paved this Spring. The following list was sent to the Department of Public Works for their consideration in regard to which streets are most in need of repair.

Final Approved Reapportioned City Council Districts 3/12/13

After each decennial census, City Council is required to make changes to council districts to reflect the new population distribution throughout the City. Districts are required to be as equal in population as practicable, compact, contiguous, and in compliance with the federal voting rights act.

The 2010 Federal Census established the population of the City of Pittsburgh at 305,704–a decrease from 334,563 from the 2000 Census–putting the “ideal” district size at 33,967. Due to the population changes over the last ten years, current districts range in population from 28,695 to 39,259.

PUBLIC WORKS: 2013 PAVING PROGRAM

Greetings,

I would like to announce that the Department of Public Works Paving Program for 2013 has begun. This program is an opportunity for the residents of the City of Pittsburgh to submit addresses or intersections that are in need of paving or have potholes that are need of filling.
For District 6 residents that would like to request paving in their neighborhoods, please call the District 6 office at 412-255-2134 or via email at Daniel.wood@pittsburghpa.gov or shanalee.russell@pittsburghpa.gov.
Please note, our office cannot promise the final priority of streets that the Department of Public Works chooses to pave, but your input is greatly needed and impactful.
