Nine Pittsburgh-area cultural organizations are thanking supporters by offering free admission to members of the following participating museums on select dates next month. In other words, members of any participating museum gets free admission at any of the other eight on designated days.

Free admission extends to two adults and four children.

Music Performance: Reggae Jam
Come enjoy Reggae music at The Corner on Saturday, January 18th @ 7pm. Truth and Rites will be jamming the evening away. Light refreshments served. This is a free event.

MLKing Jr. Art Project
Bring kids of all ages to participate in an interactive art project to commemorate the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. Monday, January 20th from 12pm to 3pm. Refreshments and art supplies will be provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Film: “JUSTICE FOR ALL?” FILM SERIES
Saturday, Jan. 25 @ 3 p.m. How “just” is our country’s criminal justice system? What could a Christian response to inequities in the system look like? This three-part film and discussion series will provide opportunities to explore these and other issues. “Slavery by Another Name,” the first film in the series, will give this issue some historical context. and will be shown

Skate with a menagerie of your favorite Pittsburgh area mascots on the ice during this annual event at the Schenley Park Rink.

OPDC’s Keep it Clean, Oakland program works with college groups each month who have “adopted blocks” and made commitments to do monthly clean-ups of these blocks throughout the year. If you see these students on your block, please introduce yourself!  Feel free to join in.  The next few tentative Saturday dates are October 26th, November 2nd and 23rd, and December 7th.

We will update this post when we are able to sort through everything for some actual numbers, but we had well over 200 neighbors, students and friends attend our first collaborative Community Day with SONG and Oakcliffe Housing Club (OHC).

The people quoted in the article feel the reporter missed a few very important pieces of information in the below piece.  If enough people comment on the article the Post Gazette might see there’s interest and consider doing a follow-up article.  OPDC posted a comment about the omissions—how the university’s student guide is just one piece of a huge project, and the need for volunteers to help go door to door, the need landlord engagement, etc.

Last summer, officials lauded the launch of a new bike trail in Hazelwood as a new step toward revitalizing the struggling neighborhood. On Monday, the trail will close for the same reason.

The closure of the two-mile portion of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail is supposed to be temporary while earth-moving and grading begins for a $1 billion redevelopment of the former LTV coke works. But it could still take “several months” before another trail — currently linking Hazelwood Avenue with the Hot Metal Bridge — can be built, said Thomas Baxter, executive director of Friends of the Riverfront.
